Breaking down Timber Kitty
We love our pals to death. But as obsessed as we are, there’s just one thing we’re not fans of…
Cleaning up. Keeping our area tidy has been one of humanity’s challenges from the very beginning. We procrastinate, hem and haw, and sweep things under the rug (sometimes literally!) so what more when we have to clean up after another creature other than ourselves?!
With no opposable thumbs, cat litter is a godsend to cats and owners. With it, we enter into an unspoken agreement whereby our furry friends do their business only in that area, while we uphold our part of the deal by cleaning after them. But not all litters are made equal. Some, like clay or sand might be cheap at first glance, but consumes more, tracks, and can be harmful to our cat’s respiratory system. Since it’s not biodegradable, it often contaminates our Earth long after disposal. While others like pine are seemingly effective and natural, the oils from pine wood are toxic to cats.
Where do we go from here?
That’s where Timber Kitty comes in! 100% natural and chemical-free, you get all the benefits of an easy cleanup (especially when paired with a sifter!), while being dust-free, more absorbent, odour repelling, and absolutely safe for our feline friends! Made of recycled timber, each pellet is kiln dried, compostable, and biodegradable - perfect for any plantito and plantitas!
And now, the cleaning
The story of cat litters doesn’t end after they’re used - how you dispose of it matters too! Because Timber Kitty breaks down slowly into sawdust when it comes into contact with liquids, these wood chips can be mixed in with non-edible plants, or with edible ones after composting. Similarly, used Timber is also flushable in small amounts if you don’t have a garden.
Switching it up?
As all cat lovers know, our pals can be quite fickle; doubly so when it comes to their litter! Transitioning from one litter to another can be daunting at first glance but worry not, there is method to the madness!
While some cats settle into Timber Kitty straightaway, others may need a little more persuading. In that case, a good rule of thumb is to add some of their old litter into their new one, and gradually increase it over time. Especially picky cats can start with 80% old and 20% timber, slowly working their way up until they reach the 100% mark.
Golden tips from humans who’ve happily switched to Timber Kitty suggest burying clumped up waste from their old litter into the wood pellets to help their kitties make the association. Giving treats for a job well done as your kitties progress reassures them too! Ultimately, every cat has their own unique personality - so don’t be afraid to test things out!
While cleaning up might not be our favourite activity, Timber Kitty just makes it that much simpler. It offers a chemical-free, environmentally conscious, and safe alternative to most litters out there. While cats are still ways off from cleaning up after themselves, ‘till that day comes, you can rest assured that Timber Kitty has you covered!
With 2 sizes to choose from, the 14L can last 4-8 weeks per cat, while the 4L is a great starter's kit to test the waters.
